Dueling Durability Scale

From our experience with all the types of blades we like to stick to a general rule of "dueling against the same type of blade". Component blade vs component blade or non-component blade vs non-component (film vs film).

This is all similar to the way you'd rate Metal or wooden blades in practice. You wouldn't use an aluminum stage blade against a stainless steel blade and like wise a stainless against a harder steel etc...

FYI: Aluminum blades are what is most widely used in live performacnes etc.. because they make better much better sound than steel and are cheaper to manufacture.

With saber blades, however, each type of tubing has it's own characteristics and rebound flex and are rated according to the following scale:

To better give you an idea as to polycarbonate strength and the punishment they will take under use, lets the above levels to a more familiar material ( like wood ).

Typical Lightweight Boken: Level 7
Solid Hard Oak Boken: Level 10

Saber Blade Rating Chart

Considering their relative component performance, I'd rate the current types of Saber blades as follows:

One piece LED strip component blade with plastic and foam diffusion. Polycarbonate Dual Tube (inner 7/8in and outer 1in )
Master Replicas Yoda: thinwalled 3/4inch blade LEVEL 2
Master Replicas Darth Maul: thickwalled 1inch blade (in stock form) LEVEL 5
3 Cell Models: thinwalled 1inch blade LEVEL 4
6 Cell Models: thinwalled 1inch blade LEVEL 3
Three piece LED strip type component blade with plastic
and foam diffusion.
Nylon Dual Tube (inner 3/4in and outer 1in ) LEVEL 6.5
Electro Luninescent (EL) Blades
Depending on tube thickness LEVEL 6-7
Luxeon Polycarbonate Blades:
Film filtered diffusion hollow blade
Thinwalled 3/4 inch LEVEL 4
Thinwalled 1 inch LEVEL 6
Thickwalled 1 inch LEVEL 9
Luxeon Polycarbonate Blades (Fiber Reinforced):
Film filtered diffusion hollow blade.
Thinwalled 1 inch LEVEL 7
Thickwalled 1 inch LEVEL 9
Nylon Polycarbonate Blades (Fiber Reinforced):
Film filtered diffusion hollow blade.
Thinwalled 1 inch LEVEL 8
